Asset Tagging

Asset tagging links physical property items to digital records so teams can track inventory, warranties, maintenance schedules, and service history.

Definition

Asset tagging is the practice of giving a physical property item a unique label, such as a QR code or RFID tag, and connecting that label to a digital asset record. In multifamily operations, tagged assets can include equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and other high-value property items. The digital record typically helps teams find key details like location, warranty information, maintenance schedules, and service history.

Example

A maintenance technician scans the tag on a rooftop HVAC unit before starting a service visit. The scan opens the asset record, where the technician can confirm the unit’s serial number, warranty status, preventive maintenance schedule, and prior work order history.

Why It Matters?

Asset tagging helps operations leaders maintain a more accurate inventory across properties and reduce gaps in asset data. It also makes it easier for maintenance teams to access asset history in the field, support warranty tracking, and plan recurring maintenance for high-value property items.
