Autopay
Autopay automatically pays recurring rent or lease charges, helping residents pay on time and teams streamline collections.
Definition
Autopay is a preauthorized payment setup that automatically pays recurring rent or lease charges from a resident’s selected payment method. In multifamily operations, it may be configured to pay the full monthly balance or a fixed amount each month. Because balances can change with parking, deposits, late fees, or other variable charges, teams should make clear how autopay amounts are calculated and what happens if a balance remains.
Example
A resident sets autopay to pay the total monthly balance on the first of each month. Their payment covers rent and recurring parking, but if a one-time amenity deposit is added, the autopay amount may increase for that month.
Why It Matters?
Autopay supports a more convenient resident payment experience and reduces reliance on paper checks or in-person payments. For operations leaders, it can help standardize collections, reduce avoidable late payments, and lower the amount of manual follow-up needed for open balances.
