Definition

A building-specific shift is a technician shift that applies only to selected buildings or sub-buildings within a community. It defines when that technician is available and limits assignment rules to the locations they are meant to cover during that time. This helps teams match maintenance coverage to the physical layout of a property.

Example

At a community with Buildings A through F, a supervisor schedules one technician from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Buildings A–C and another technician for Buildings D–F. If a work order is created in Building B during that shift, it should be assigned only to the technician covering Buildings A–C.

Why It Matters?

Building-specific shifts help operations leaders control coverage at large or multi-building communities. They make automated assignment rules more accurate by tying technician availability to the buildings or sub-buildings they are responsible for, reducing the chance that work is routed to the wrong person.
