Leasing Agent

A leasing agent markets apartments, guides prospects through tours and applications, and helps convert inquiries into signed leases.

Definition

A leasing agent is a property-level sales and service team member who helps turn renter interest into signed leases. In multifamily, leasing agents typically market available apartments, answer prospect questions, conduct tours, process rental applications, and help complete lease paperwork. They may also support current residents with move-in questions, day-to-day service needs, and renewal conversations.

Example

At a 250-unit community, a leasing agent responds to a prospect who inquired about a one-bedroom apartment, schedules a tour, shows the model unit and amenities, records the prospect’s preferences, helps them submit an application, and coordinates the next steps toward lease signing.

Why It Matters?

Leasing agents directly affect occupancy, leasing velocity, and the prospect experience. For operations leaders, clear expectations for this role help improve lead follow-up, tour quality, application handling, and handoffs between leasing, management, and resident service teams.
