Remittance Vendor

A remittance vendor is the payee or remit-to record used to route vendor payments to the correct entity, branch, or address.

Definition

A remittance vendor is the payee or remit-to record used when payment should go to a specific entity or address, even if the invoice is associated with a broader supplier record. In multifamily accounting, it helps teams manage vendors that have multiple branches, departments, or payment addresses without creating duplicate vendor records. The supplier and the remittance vendor are often the same, but they can differ when payment is routed to another location or entity.

Example

A regional maintenance supplier serves several apartment communities, but invoices for different service branches must be paid to different remittance addresses. The AP team keeps one main vendor record and selects the correct remittance vendor when coding each invoice, so payments go to the right branch without creating separate duplicate vendor profiles.

Why It Matters?

Remittance vendors help operations leaders keep vendor data cleaner, reduce duplicate records, and lower the risk of sending payments to the wrong address. They also make invoice processing more consistent across properties when the same vendor has multiple locations or payment instructions.
