Touring

Touring is how prospects view apartments, with scheduling, access, capacity, and follow-up workflows that support leasing operations.

Definition

Touring is the process of helping a prospective renter view an apartment community or unit before they apply. In multifamily operations, touring can include agent-led visits, self-guided visits, scheduling rules, access steps, capacity limits, and follow-up after the visit. Touring is typically managed around set community or agent hours rather than vague “by appointment only” availability.

Example

A community offers in-person tours every weekday afternoon and allows up to four tours in the same time slot. After each visit, the team sends a follow-up message asking how the tour went and includes an application link for the prospect.

Why It Matters?

Touring is a key step between initial interest and a signed lease, so operations leaders need it to be easy for prospects and manageable for teams. Clear touring hours, capacity rules, and follow-up workflows help communities handle more demand, reduce leasing workload, and create a more consistent prospect experience.
