Central leasing agent

A central leasing agent supports leasing across multiple properties, handling prospect follow-up, applications, and lease workflow tasks.

Definition

A central leasing agent is a leasing team member who supports multiple apartment communities from a centralized team instead of being assigned to one property full time. The role typically handles portfolio-wide prospect follow-up, inbound inquiries, tour scheduling, application questions or review, lease generation, and lease-signature follow-up. Central leasing agents often work under a central leasing supervisor who monitors response times, conversions, workflows, and the prospect experience.

Example

In a 10,000-unit portfolio, several central leasing agents may support leasing activity across many properties. Instead of each site handling every lead on its own, the central agents follow up with prospects, schedule tours, answer application questions, and help move approved applicants toward lease signing.

Why it matters

For multifamily operations leaders, the central leasing agent role is a building block of leasing centralization. It can help standardize follow-up, reduce duplicated work across properties, and let onsite teams spend more time on tours, resident experience, and property-level needs. Staffing models in the research commonly assume one central leasing agent can support roughly 2,000 to 3,000 units, making the role important for workforce planning.
