Date ready

Date ready is the calendar date when a vacant apartment has completed the make-ready process and is ready for the next resident. It usually follows required repairs, cleaning, paint touch-ups, inspections, and a final walk-through. It is different from the move-out date or scheduled move-in date because it marks operational readiness, not resident activity.

A resident moves out on May 1. Maintenance completes repairs on May 3, housekeeping finishes on May 4, and the manager completes the final walk-through that afternoon, so the unit’s date ready is recorded as May 4.

Date ready helps operations leaders measure turn performance, vacant days, and revenue risk. A clear ready date also improves coordination between maintenance, leasing, and property management so teams know when a unit can be shown, leased, or occupied.
