Delayed Unit Assignment

Delayed Unit Assignment lets teams process applications before choosing the exact unit, helping manage leasing and unit-readiness timing.

Definition

Delayed Unit Assignment is a leasing workflow setting that lets a team accept or process applications without immediately tying each application to a specific apartment unit. It is typically enabled at the company-preference level so onsite or centralized teams can decide when unit selection should happen later in the application or move-in process.

Example

A prospect applies for a one-bedroom home, but the exact unit is not assigned yet because several similar units are still in turn. The leasing team keeps the application moving, then assigns the best available unit once readiness, move-out timing, and move-in date are clearer.

Why it matters

Delayed Unit Assignment helps operations leaders separate applicant progress from unit-readiness uncertainty. That can reduce rework when turns, inspections, or move-in timing change, while still requiring clear ownership of the final unit assignment before possession.
