Definition
An inspection report is the written record of a property, building, or unit inspection. In multifamily operations, it typically captures observed conditions, photos, comments, ratings or scores, and follow-up needs so teams can understand current property condition and operational risk. These reports are generally based on visual observation rather than engineering testing.
Example
After a move-out inspection, the site team creates an inspection report noting carpet damage, appliance condition, wall repairs, photos of each issue, and any tasks needed before the next resident moves in.
Why it matters
Inspection reports give operations leaders a consistent record for maintenance planning, unit turns, risk management, and asset oversight. They help teams identify trends, prioritize repairs, and document property condition over time.
