Inspection type classifies inspections by purpose, helping teams schedule, filter, assign, and report on property condition work.
Definition
An inspection type is a label that classifies an inspection by its purpose, such as preventative, compliance, daily property walk, move-in, or move-out. In multifamily operations, it helps teams distinguish routine property checks from lease-related, compliance, or asset-focused inspections. Inspection type can also be used to organize project setup, filtering, assignment, and follow-up work.
Example
A regional maintenance leader creates a recurring boiler inspection project and sets the inspection type to Preventative. Later, the team filters the inspections board by that type to review upcoming preventative checks and confirm any related work orders were created.
Why it matters
Inspection type gives operations leaders a consistent way to group and manage inspection work across properties. It supports better scheduling, clearer reporting, faster filtering, and more reliable follow-through when inspections uncover needed repairs or resident charges.
