Intent Recognition

How AI identifies resident or prospect needs from text or voice so multifamily teams can route, prioritize, and respond more consistently.

Definition

Intent recognition is an AI capability that identifies what a person is trying to do from their words, whether they type a message or speak on a call. In multifamily operations, it can classify requests such as maintenance, emergencies, billing questions, or general questions so the next step can be routed correctly. It is often used before actions like asking follow-up questions, creating a work order, or escalating an urgent issue.

Example

A resident texts, “My sink is leaking.” Intent recognition classifies the message as a maintenance issue, checks whether it sounds urgent, and can prompt a follow-up such as whether there is active flooding before the work order is prioritized.

Why it matters

Intent recognition helps teams sort high-volume resident and prospect conversations faster and more consistently. For operations leaders, that means fewer missed urgent issues, cleaner routing to the right team, and better visibility into what types of requests are driving workload.
