Move-In

Move-in is the resident handoff and occupancy start, including keys, condition documentation, signatures, and team coordination.

Definition

Move-in is the point when a new resident takes possession of an apartment and the property team completes the handoff from leasing and make-ready to active residency. It typically includes key handoff, resident communications, condition documentation, and any required signatures. A move-in condition report is especially important because it records photos, notes, and resident acknowledgment at the start of occupancy.

Example

On move-in day, the site team walks the new resident through the apartment, reviews each room’s photos and notes, captures the resident’s signature on the move-in report, gives access instructions, and confirms the completed report is synced to the property record.

Why it matters

Move-in is one of the first operational moments that shapes resident trust and satisfaction. A consistent process helps teams reduce disputes over unit condition, coordinate final make-ready work, and create a clear record for later move-out comparisons.
