Resident Status

Resident status shows where a resident or lease is in its lifecycle and helps teams manage outreach, renewals, and move-outs.

Definition

Resident status is the operational label that shows where a resident or lease is in its lifecycle on a given date. Common statuses can include applicant, current, on notice, previous, renewed, transferred, or moved out. Property teams use these statuses to organize records, target communications, and manage renewal or move-out workflows.

Example

A regional manager sends a building-wide SMS update only to current residents and excludes residents marked on notice or moved out, so the message reaches the right households.

Why it matters

Resident status helps operations leaders keep communications, renewal follow-up, and move-out tasks aligned with each household’s actual situation. When statuses are inaccurate or inconsistent, teams may contact the wrong residents, miss renewal opportunities, or create extra manual work.
