Sub-building

A sub-building is a distinct building or section within a larger multifamily property, used to organize work, staffing, and reporting.

Definition

A sub-building is a distinct building, wing, section, or addressable subdivision within a larger multifamily community. Operations teams use sub-buildings to organize work, locations, staffing coverage, and reporting when one property contains multiple physical structures or sections.

Example

At a 12-building garden-style community, maintenance leaders can tag work orders to Building 4 as a sub-building and limit technician auto-assignment to the buildings covered by that technician’s scheduled shift.

Why it matters

Sub-buildings help teams route work to the right staff, narrow filters on maintenance queues, and understand where issues are occurring across a large community. For operations leaders, this improves dispatch accuracy, workload visibility, and accountability by location.
