Active resident

An active resident is a current resident associated with a property, typically after an approved applicant has moved into the resident stage. In plain terms, it is someone who occupies a rental unit under an agreement with the owner or landlord and is treated as current for day-to-day operations such as communications, maintenance, and move-out planning.

A household signs its lease, completes move-in tasks, and receives keys on Monday. The onsite team marks the household as an active resident, so future maintenance requests, community notices, and move-out steps are handled through resident workflows rather than applicant workflows.

For operations leaders, active resident status helps teams know who should receive resident communications, who can submit service requests, and which households belong in current operational reports. Clear status also reduces handoff errors between leasing, maintenance, accounting, and move-out processes.
