Exemption request

An exemption request is a formal ask to be excused from a specific compliance requirement, such as a required document, or from a broader set of organizational requirements. The request is usually reviewed and either approved or declined by an authorized decision-maker. If the requester later decides to meet the requirement, the exemption can be canceled so the item returns to a submission-ready status.

A property team needs to use a contractor for an urgent one-time repair, but the contractor cannot immediately provide one required compliance document. The team submits an exemption request for that document, tracks the request while it is pending review, and later cancels the exemption when the contractor provides the document so it can be uploaded.

Exemption requests help operations leaders balance compliance control with real-world exceptions. They create a review point for nonstandard situations, make pending decisions easier to track, and preserve flexibility when a requirement no longer needs to be waived.
