Pet screening is the process of reviewing a resident’s or applicant’s animal against the community’s pet policies and required documentation. It can include a pet background check, confirmation of pet-related information, and separate handling for assistance or service animal documentation. In multifamily operations, it is typically part of the broader application and screening workflow.

A leasing team receives an application that lists a dog. Before approval, staff collect the pet profile, vaccination record, photo, and any required pet agreement, then compare the information with the community’s pet policy and document the outcome in the applicant file.
