Resident Communication

Resident communication is how property teams share updates, answer questions, route requests, and keep resident issues moving.

Definition

Resident communication is the ongoing exchange of information between a property management team and residents throughout the lease lifecycle. It includes updates, instructions, resident questions, staff responses, service-status messages, and expectations across channels and teams. The goal is not simply to send more messages, but to make communication timely, clear, relevant, actionable, and connected to operational workflows.

Example

A resident reports a leaking ceiling. The onsite team confirms receipt, routes the issue to maintenance, sends status updates while the repair is scheduled, answers the resident’s access questions, and follows up after the work is completed.

Why it matters

Resident communication affects the day-to-day living experience because residents depend on clear information where they live. For operations leaders, strong communication helps teams respond promptly, track issues, coordinate internally, and avoid stalled conversations that can disrupt service or collections workflows.
