Application status

Application status shows where a renter is in the leasing process, from started or submitted to approved, declined, withdrawn, or lease-ready.

Definition

An application status is the label that shows where a renter’s application is in the leasing process. Common statuses indicate whether the applicant has started, submitted, been approved, been declined, withdrawn, or moved on to lease steps. In multifamily operations, these statuses help teams know what action is needed next and who owns the follow-up.

Example

A prospect tours an apartment, receives an application link, and starts the form. Their status changes to Application Started, which tells the leasing team to pause general follow-up and focus on helping the applicant finish documents, screening, and approval steps.

Why it matters

Application status gives operations leaders visibility into application volume, bottlenecks, and conversion from applicant to resident. Clear status tracking helps teams reduce turnaround time, avoid missed follow-up, and coordinate approvals, lease creation, and move-in preparation consistently across properties.
