Open API

An open API is a documented way for approved software systems or developers to connect with a platform and exchange data. In multifamily operations, it can help accounting, leasing, maintenance, reporting, and resident communication systems share information instead of relying on manual exports. “Open” does not mean unrestricted; access can be governed with permissions, testing environments, and other controls.

A regional operations team uses an open API to send approved work orders from a resident portal into its maintenance tracking system, then return completion status so site teams and residents see the same update.

Open APIs matter because multifamily portfolios often run several systems across leasing, accounting, maintenance, and resident services. Better system-to-system data flow can reduce duplicate entry, improve reporting consistency, and support centralized workflows across properties.
